Parking

Entry and parking fees are paid at entry booths on the Great Alpine Road (Mother Johnson?s when appraching from Omeo and on the Harrietville side).

Proceed to the lodge, located at village bus stop 4 adjacent to the Blue Ribbon chair and lodge and across the road from Spiral Stairs, to unload ski gear and other belongings. Loading zone arrangements vary from time to time but short term parking (15 minutes) is usually available on the uphill side of the Alpine Road directly opposite the lodge. All day (ie not overnight) parking is sometimes available 100 metres or so towards Omeo/Big D.

The carpark on the downhill (lodge) side of the road is signed as mountain staff parking only, however it is often possible to use that area as a loading/unloading zone. Care should be taken to when using this maginally legal area to allow access to vehicles legitimate!

Once unloaded, cars should be driven to one of the designated overnight parking areas located 1km or so towards Omeo. Again the parking arangements vary from time to time, often changing during the course of the season, however overnight parking generally starts on the side of the road below the last of the lodges (grid reference M3 on the village map). Larger parking areas are located further along the road towards Omeo. At peak times attendants will direct you to a park while at other times it is a free-for-all. Take care to park in signed areas as a fine could ruin an otherwise great trip.

A free bus will pick you up from the nearest designated bus stop (and often between stops) and ferry you back to Stop 4. At certain times during the day you may have to transfer from a small bus (approx 20 seater) to the larger village shuttle. The bus system runs until well into the night.
